Watching live theatre can contribute to ākonga's understanding of theatre form, inspire drama creation or performance and hone their ability to respond to theatre in an embodied and theoretical way.
From 2024 the refreshed NCEA Level One will be implemented. Achievement Standard 1.4 requires ākonga to respond to live theatre. This assessment will be a report that may be done at any point in the year and submitted for marking in October. Year 11/Level One can have more flexibility about when they see Live Theatre and aren't constrained by the exam period.
The integrated approach of the refreshed NCEA means that responding to live theatre, creation of drama and unpacking plays in the Theatre Aotearoa cannon can be taught as part of a rich programme of work.
